What is the question for this answer? |
All log cabins have an interlock system with wood thickness form 28mm to 68mm.
|
What insulation should I have? |
Depending on what you want to use your summerhouse or log cabin for, you can have roof and/or floor insulation fitted. For garden sheds this is usually not necessary. If your log cabin or summerhouse is to be used as a guesthouse or office/studio, then insulation is recommended. Floor insulation (4cm thickness) is put between the floor joists and underneath the floor boards. Roof insulation consists of insulation plates (4cm thickness) which are installed between the shingles and the roof boards using long clout head nails.
|
What about double-glazing? |
Most cabins have the option of double-glazed windows and doors (these options are not available in 28mm buildings).
|
What colour shingles are available? |
The standard colour for shingles is green. Black shingles should be requested at the time of order.
|
Can I have different doors or windows? |
We have an extensive range of extra cost options available upon request.
|
Can the wall height be raised? |
Increasing the wall height is an extra cost option, please call for details.
|
Do I need to prepare foundations? |
All summerhouses/log cabins are delivered with pressure impregnated foundation beams. These dimensions vary according to the thickness of the wood of the summerhouse/log cabin, e.g. approx. 44 x 70 mm for 28 mm wood thickness (Prima range only), approx. 70 x 70 mm for 44 mm wood thickness, and for 68 mm log cabins the foundation beams are approx. 88 x 70 mm. Any wooden flooring is also supplied with pressure impregnated floor joists (approx. 44 x 68 mm).The laying of PERFECTLY LEVEL foundations is the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the preparation work for siting a summerhouse or log cabin. UNFORTUNATELY, all too often this part is underestimated, leading to unnecessary problems (and inconveniences) including subsiding foundations and/or doors and windows that do not function correctly.
Poorly laid foundations can also cause wall sections to no longer slide up or down in the corner uprights (downwards in dry weather and upwards in wet weather), resulting in cracks. Depending on the subsoil, remove earth to a depth of around 20 cm, fill in the hole with yellow sand, then compact and vibrate the entire area. Next, lay a floor of tiles or concrete slabs - once again the most important thing is to ensure that the entire area is PERFECTLY LEVEL. The floor must ALWAYS be above ground level, and we recommend putting a layer of gravel all the way round the summerhouse to protect it from splashing (rain)water. In case of doubts or queries about the subsoil, you can always contact ThinkCabins.com.

Do I need a building permit? |
For a summerhouse or log cabin, you are in many cases required to apply for a building permit or to report it. Please contact your own local authority for further information. There you can also find other relevant information , such as the required boundary partition between your property and that of your neighbours (to be calculated from the eaves [for drainage etc.], i.e. not from the walls of the construction.
|
What treatment and maintenance will be required? |
All summerhouses and log cabins are delivered untreated as standard. We have no control over the elements. To provide optimum protection for your summerhouse, log cabin or any other log/timber building against the effects of the weather, you must treat the wood as quickly as possible, both internally and externally.
We recommend treating the wood first of all with an impregnating agent after assembly. Then you can treat the summerhouse, log cabin etc., with non-transparent or transparent dye stain. Combining an impregnating agent with dye stain provides the best results.
Please note: clear or non-moisture regulating paint systems must never be used!
You can, as an optional extra, have your summerhouse or log cabin pre-impregnated at manufacture source. This must be clearly stated when ordering.
